Biography

After playing in senior football for Collingwood over each of 1912 and 1913, Lowe crossed to Carlton for the 1914 years. Lowe wore guernsey #30 in 13 games for the Blues in 1914, including the successful Grand Final - thereby becoming a Premiership player.

He kicked 9 goals at Carlton, he was originally recruited from Seymour.

In the two season's that Lowe played with the Magpies, he totalled 25 games and kicked 24 goals.

In the 1914 Grand Final Jack was placed under report for rough play and attempted kicking by a steward. At the time the VFL had implemented a new system where stewards were employed to keep a look out for rough play and make reports leaving the umpire to concentrate on umpiring the game. The tribunal did not sit the week after the grand final maybe because Carlton played Port Adelaide the weekend after the grand final in Adelaide and Jack Lowe played in that game. The tribunal was suspended once again waiting for Jack to return to Melbourne. It was not until the 14th of October that the tribunal sat and found Jack guilty and disqualified Lowe from playing until 30 June 1915. This must have been the last straw for Jack as he is not reported as playing another game for the Blues. https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/10811690

Lowe was born in Yarrawonga, he passed away on the 1st May, 1944 aged 53.
