Game Review

In very wet and trying conditions, bottom side Fitzroy caused a major upset by beating top five team Carlton. At this stage of the season, Fitzroy had only won one of their first 12 games of the year. The conditions were so poor this round that all reserves games were cancelled.

Fitzroy won its first match for 12 weeks when it defeated Carlton by seven points at the Junction Oval. David McMahon and John Murphy did well for the Lions while David McKay and Barry Armstrong were the Blues best. - Football Record.

Fitzroy returned to the winning list after 11 straight losses when they handled the wet conditions far better than their more experienced opponents - Carlton! It was the Blues third loss in the only four games they've played at the Junction Oval since it became the home of the Lions in 1970. - Football Record.
