Game Review
Carlton entered the game wearing black armbands as a mark of respect to Sgt George Challis, one of the club's better players in the 1915 finals campaign, as news of his death while serving in France was released.
Carlton entered the game without McGregor and O'Brien who were both ill. Injuries to Sharp (broken collarbone) in the first quarter, and to Jamieson (fractured arm) in the second, meant that Carlton played with 16 men for much of the game. In spite of this, Carlton managed a slender lead at every change.
In the last quarter, Fitzroy kicked 4 goals to the Blues none, to ice the game. As minor premier, Carlton had right of reply in the Grand Final, and would again face Fitzroy the following week.
