Game Review
Carlton jumped to outright ladder leadership as the only undefeated team in the competition after despatching Melbourne by 33 points in this game at the MCG.
The Blues led at every change, with seasoned recruits in follower Jack Wells and defender Percy Sheehan standing tall for their new club. George Topping continued his early season scoring spree, and his four goals lifted him to third place on the League table with 10 majors - two behind joint leaders Dick Lee of Collingwood, and Percy Martini of Geelong.
"Gotz was the star performer for Carlton. Alternating in the positions of half-back and half-forward, he was as a stone wall in defence and a battering ram in attack." (The Age May 23)
Carlton’s percentage was a healthy 178.45. Collingwood, Fitzroy and Geelong made up the top four.
