Game Review

This round of matches was something of an anti-climax. With the top three teams decided, the only real interest was in the game between Collingwood and South Melbourne at Victoria Park – won easily by the Magpies to secure fourth place, and a date with Essendon in the first Semi Final the following Saturday.

At Princes Park, Carlton coasted to victory against University to complete a super home and away season. One loss in 18 matches and a percentage of 169.43 was testimony to the talent and professionalism of Jack Worrall’s Blues, and the way they disposed of the Students underlined their ability. Never out of second gear, they were superior all over the ground, while their forwards did as they pleased. Harvey Kelly kicked four goals, Vin Gardiner three and George Topping two as the Blues tuned up for a Semi Final meeting with St Kilda in a fortnight’s time.

With its place in the four assured, St Kilda performed dreadfully against Richmond, who win by 63 points. The Saints were accused of 'taking a dive' to avoid playing against Carlton in the Second Semi-Final. - 100 Years of Australian Rules Football.

"Tell Jack Worrall To Send For Jim Flynn"

Flynn was bought back to Carlton and this day played his first game for the the year. Perhaps a master stroke by coach John Worrall on the eve of the finals? with Carlton going for three premiershipships in a row.
Flynn played well in the final series.
"Footballers and the public in general will regret to hear that Frank Caine, the Carlton forward, is lying dangerously ill at his home in Lancefield. Mr. J. Worrall, secretary of the club, is receiving daily bulletins of Caine's condition, and the latest states that his condition is extremely critical. Mr. H. Nurse, of Lancefield Junction, has kindly sent me a letter to the same effect. The other night, just previous to passing into a delirious stage, Caine's thoughts were for his team, and he remarked to those at his bedside "Tell Jack Worrall to send for Jim Flynn for the finals."
