The 1960's: A Summary

The 1960's were to be a far more successful time for Carlton than the previous decade, with a return to Grand Final performances coming early in the decade, in 1962. This would mark the end of a 13 year drought from Grand Finals.

But the more important drought, the Premiership drought experienced since 1947, would be broken late in the decade as the Blues assembled the amazing 1968 / 1970 / 1972 Premiership teams, our 9th-11th Premierships.

Overall, the 1960's would see Carlton compete in the 1962 (Runner-Up), 1968 (Premiership no.9) and 1969 (Runner-up) Grand Finals.

Interestingly, this reign of success occured after the Blues embraced youth like never before. 19 of the 20 youngest Carlton teams in history took the field in the era 1964 to 1970, and a young, inexperienced but highly talented group formed the nucleus of a great Premiership-winning team.
