Carlton led from start to finish in the season opener to get its campaign off on the right foot, defeating Darebin by 17 points at Preston City Oval. The Blues dominated for much of the first half, keeping the Falcons scoreless for more than 30 minutes and reaching a game-high lead of 36 points at the 13-minute mark of the second quarter. The hosts were a more competitive outfit in the second half of their annual Pride Round match and reduced the final margin below three goals. Zoe Larkins and Hannah Scott were key players for the Blues, both amassing 25 touches while the latter also recorded 12 tackles in the triumph. Sophia McCarthy booted two of Carlton’s seven majors, while for Darebin, it was Caitlin Bunker who led from the front with 24 disposals, six tackles and a goal.

For the second consecutive week, North Melbourne Werribee turned around a slow start to record a dominant win, this time beating Carlton by 32 points at IKON Park. Coming off a strong opening round win, Carlton started the match in excellent fashion and kicked three goals in each of the first two terms to hold a 17-point advantage at the main break. Lucy Burke was in superb form down back, while Nell Morris-Dalton and Sophie McCarthy had the scoreboard ticking over. However, the Blues would only be afforded two more behinds in the second half as North Melbourne Werribee flipped the script. The Kangaroos piled on four goals in the third quarter to lead by six points at three-quarter time before doubling the dose in the last quarter. Shelby Knoll was the star up forward with four majors and four contested marks. Recruits Abby Favell, Lauren Jatczak and Ava Seton were also terrific.

Match Review

Carlton produced an excellent fightback to return to the winners' list, defeating Sandringham by 12 points at IKON Park. The Zebras led for nearly three and a half quarters and held an advantage as great as 13 points at the seven-minute mark of the third quarter, where they looked to be in control of the match. But the Blues would start to gain ascendancy as the three-quarter-time siren sounded, reducing the margin to seven points at the final change before booting three unanswered majors in the last quarter to secure their second win of the season. Kicking the last two goals of the game was Nell Morris-Dalton, who was the Blues' only multiple-goal kicker, whilst teammate Hannah Scott elevated herself to another level with 35 disposals, 10 tackles and five clearances. Sandringham’s Charlotte Taylor was as hard to stop in the middle and had season highs in both disposals (20) and clearances (seven).

VFLW Blues go down to Bombers
The VFLW Blues were defeated by Essendon on Saturday at Windy Hill. - By Eve Joyce.
Carlton VFLW went down to Essendon by 32 points at Windy Hill on Saturday. Despite a strong and persistent effort against the home side, the Blues fell 4.7 (31) to 10.3 (63). Windy Hill didn’t live up to its name, with near-perfect footy conditions providing the ideal stage for the game. Essendon took the early advantage, using its home ground familiarity to secure the opening goal and establish momentum. Carlton started at a steady pace with well-structured passages of play down the middle, which allowed Emily Elkington to follow through for the Blues' first goal of the match. The Blues' defensive line was tested as they knocked back repeated entries into Essendon’s forward 50. Coming back from quarter time, Carlton’s intensity lifted as they drove the ball forward and opened up scoring opportunities. Essendon, however, responded with an unwavering defensive structure. Moments before the half-time siren, a well-executed passage of play landed perfectly in the hands of Nell Morris-Dalton, who kept the Blues within reach as she added another major to the board. At half-time, the Blues remained in the hunt. However, the Bombers extended their lead to 32 points at three-quarter time, which was also the eventual final margin. Despite the considerable deficit, the Blues continued to fight, as Tahlia Plunkett booted her first goal of the season, which was closely followed by another from Nell Morris-Dalton. Katelyn Busuttil, Emily Elkington, Nell Morris-Dalton and Hannah Scott led the way with 17 disposals apiece. Ellie Sbeghen was also a standout in the ruck with 28 hit-outs. Following a Round 5 bye, Carlton will next host Port Melbourne on Saturday, June 20 from 11.05 am at IKON Park.

Essendon got off the mark in 2026, picking up its first victory of the campaign with a 32-point upset over Carlton at Windy Hill on Sunday. After trailing early in the first quarter, the Bombers produced three goals in three minutes to end the first term, which proved to be the catalyst for breaking the game open. The home side would get out to a 22-point half-time advantage, with the Blues unable to challenge thereafter as the margin remained above 20 points for the remainder of the game. Three goals each from Christina Bernardi and Tia Davidge ensured the Bombers would go on to kick a winning score, with teammate Amelie Gladman controlling things in the middle with 20 disposals and 11 contested possessions. Hannah Scott continues to impress for Carlton with a fine 19-disposal performance, while Nell Morris-Dalton was also terrific with 19 disposals, whilst kicking two goals.

VFLW Blues narrowly defeated by the Borough
Carlton went down by 19 points to Port Melbourne on Saturday at IKON Park. - By Eve Joyce.
Carlton VFLW was edged out by Port Melbourne on Saturday at IKON Park, going down by 19 points, 3.5 (23) to 6.6 (42). With only one spot separating the two sides on the ladder, sitting 6th and 7th, it was no surprise the game started evenly. The Blues began strongly, controlling possession and gaining momentum early. Both teams slotted a behind before their first goal of the game, which came via a Tahlia Plunkett specialty. Plunkett's presence around the goal set the tone for the attackers, while Ellie Sbeghen's impressive marking helped Carlton maintain control. Sbeghen finished with 51 hit-outs and four marks. Port Melbourne quickly responded, breaking through Carlton’s defence and taking a one-point lead as quarter time approached. A key play from the Blues saw Hannah Bowey make a crucial smother as the Borough advanced dangerously, denying them a scoring chance. Entering quarter time tied, the contest was evenly poised. Both sides boosted their intensity in the second quarter, as pressure increased. Port Melbourne gained an edge with another goal. But as the Borough built a lead, the Blues responded with a goal of their own through clean ball movement to Sophia McCarthy, who took a confident mark inside 50 before converting. This halted Port Melbourne’s scoring run. The Blues persisted, adding another goal to narrow the gap. The match remained close, with neither side able to pull ahead. Carlton’s defensive efforts were vital to ensure this, especially in the slippery conditions, which made for scrappy football. Carlton advanced, linking short passes and controlling the play into its attacking half. The Blues' pressure created several chances, but despite their efforts, Port Melbourne capitalised on their opportunities, steadily extending their lead. Their ability to convert goals was the difference in controlling the scoreboard. The Blues kept fighting, but slippery conditions, relentless pressure, and the Borough’s ability to seize key moments made it too hard to pull the gap back. Nevertheless, Carlton’s effort across all quarters showed their resilience in a competitive, closely fought match.
Rebel VFLW Review.
Port Melbourne picked up its first win since Round 3 after getting past Carlton by 19 points at IKON Park. It was hard to split the sides in the opening half, with scores tied at quarter time and the Borough only holding a narrow five-point half time advantage despite a three-goal quarter. The third term would prove to the difference maker with the visitors kicking two goals to nil to take a 19-point lead into the final term which they maintained in the finish. Eloise Ashley-Cooper was influential in the middle with 21 disposals and five clearances, with teammate Mia Caffry just as impressive with 18 disposals, 12 tackles and five intercepts. Hannah Scott had an outstanding game despite the Blues’ defeat, with the 20-year-old recording a game-high 36 touches as well as seven tackles, six clearances and five rebound 50s.

VFLW Blues record commanding win over Demons
Carlton defeated Casey by 83 points on Saturday at IKON Park. - By Eve Joyce.
Carlton VFLW recorded its third win of the season at IKON Park on Saturday with an 83-point victory over Casey, 14.12 (96) to 2.1 (13). The Blues came out firing, dominating the first term as they quickly piled on three goals within the first five minutes. The intensity on the ball was relentless as the hosts controlled both possession and territory right from the start. Carlton continued to create scoring opportunities inside 50 and ended the first term with six goals. The second quarter saw Carlton’s defence in action as they held firm. The Blues' backline played their role perfectly, maintaining their structure and applying constant pressure, forcing turnovers before clearing the ball into their attacking half. The hard work paid off when the ball found Hannah Bowey for another Blues goal, giving Carlton a comfortable lead. While the second quarter was less explosive, the Blues were quick and skilful as they maintained their lead and kept Casey goalless. Carlton continued its strong form into the third quarter, applying pressure across the entire ground as they ensured the ball stayed in their attacking half and denied the Demons any chance of sustained possession. Nell Morris-Dalton added to the scoreboard with a calm finish, rewarding repeated forward entries and further extending the lead. With Casey still searching for their first major, there was a noticeable lift in their intensity. However, Carlton’s defence held firm, winning the ball back quickly even after opposition clearances. Although the midfield battle persisted, Carlton continued to create scoring chances. The steady flow and teamwork paid off again when Turner Funk broke through to kick her first goal of the season, strengthening Carlton’s lead. Funk played an impressive game, leading Carlton’s disposals with 24. Shortly after, the Blues saw McCarthy complete a hat-trick with her third goal for the game. Heading into the fourth quarter, Carlton showed no signs of easing up as they held a 62-point lead. McCarthy continued her excellent form, adding another goal to bring her tally to four majors and nine marks, proving to be a threat inside 50 with her ability to find space and convert under pressure. While the Demons showed fighting spirit in the final quarter, Carlton’s defence stood tall. In the end, it was the Blues’ consistency, defensive pressure, and ability to capitalise on opportunities that allowed them to control the game throughout.
Rebel VFLW Review.
Carlton posted their equal highest VFLW score in club history in an 83-point demolition of the Casey Demons at IKON Park on Saturday night. Setting the tone with a six-goal opening quarter, the Blues were in complete control from start to finish, ending the match with 50 more marks and 35 more inside 50s, while keeping the Demons goalless to half-time and to just two majors by the full-time siren. The victory ended a two-match losing streak for Carlton, who jumped back into the top six on percentage. The hosts had multiple contributors to the win, led by Sophia McCarthy, who booted a game-high four goals while also having 19 disposals and nine marks. Asha Turner-Funk also hit the scoreboard with two majors and led the way for disposals with 25, whilst Nell Morris-Dalton excelled with 21 disposals, five clearances, five inside 50s and a goal. Lillian Snow was the standout on a tough night for the Demons, finishing with 17 disposals, seven clearances, seven tackles and a goal.

VFLW Blues edged out by Magpies
Carlton was narrowly defeated Collingwood by four points on Saturday at Highgate Recreation Reserve. - By Eve Joyce
Carlton VFLW put in a determined performance against an undefeated Collingwood side, going down by four points, 4.6 (30) to 3.8 (26), in a hard-fought contest in challenging conditions. The Blues were on the back foot early as Collingwood applied pressure, dominating territory in the opening stages of the game. Carlton’s defence held strong despite this early pressure, creating a number of strong contested efforts that prevented the Pies from capitalising on their early dominance. There were various plays of strong ball movement down the ground as the Blues were able to create strong marking opportunities to generate attacking opportunities. Collingwood maintained a narrow advantage. The second term saw the Blues lift their intensity on the ball. Carlton’s defence continued to form a strong barrier, able to clear the ball and take advantage of the slippery conditions. This hard work was rewarded when Hannah Bowey kicked Carlton’s first major, giving the Blues the lead.
Carlton kept pushing forward as the Blues consistently worked their way back inside 50 through their one-on-one contested efforts. The scores were tied at half time at 10 apiece, creating an exciting atmosphere for the second half. Both sides emerged after the break with a renewed energy, and once again Carlton’s defence was in the spotlight as this tightened unit worked together seamlessly to support one another and limit scoring opportunities from the opposition. The Blues capitalised on their moments, linking up effectively and creating opportunities within 50. However, Collingwood matched this intensity and capitalised on turnovers at a fast pace. As heavy rain moved across the oval and created slippery conditions. Carlton stayed within attacking distance, ensuring for the most part the margin stayed within one goal. The Blues continued to create opportunities with strong ball movement, but converting inside 50 proved challenging against a persistent Magpies backline. With just one goal the difference late in the game, Sophia McCarthy produced a highlight moment with a flying mark before kicking true, keeping the Blues within four points. Despite persisting until the final siren, Carlton was unable to bridge the gap in the remaining minutes.

Collingwood had to survive a late charge by Carlton to remain unbeaten in season 2026, holding on for a four-point triumph at Highgate Recreation Reserve on Saturday. The Pies started the game the better of the two sides but were quick to be challenged by the Blues who trailed by only five points at quarter time and went into the main break on level pecking with last year’s Grand Finalists. In an eventually decisive third term, Amelia Peck was once again the player to spark Collingwood into action, kicking back-to-back goals to help her side take an 11-point lead into the final term. The away side wouldn’t go down without a fight however, winning the final quarter and giving themselves an opportunity to win the game in the final few minutes when they reduced the margin to four points at the 17-minute mark. A season best performance from Stella Huxtable helped the Pies get the four points, as her game included 33 disposals, eight clearances and six tackles, whilst teammate Talia Sanger’s form continued to shine, finishing with 27 touches, 10 tackles and five inside 50s. A gallant effort from the Blues was led by Octavia Di Donato who had 20 disposals, 13 tackles and kicked a goal.

VFLW Blues victorious over Hawks
Carlton defeated Box Hill by 36 points on Saturday at Box Hill City Oval. - By Eve Joyce
Carlton VFLW played a dominant game against Box Hill, overcoming an early slow start before taking control with an impressive 36-point victory, 10.11 (71) to 4.11 (35). In ideal football conditions, Carlton created opportunities early but struggled to convert. The Hawks generated their own entries, capitalising early as the kicked the opening goal and a head start. The Blues continued their pressure and were rewarded through Nell Morris-Dalton, whose fierceness around the contest resulted in Carlton’s first major. The scores were tied late in the first term before Box Hill edged ahead with a behind. Carlton quickly threatened with Sophie McCarthy on the wing, but the Hawks were able to hold strong. The continued pressure from the Blues' defence ensured the hosts couldn't add another major before quarter time, with only three points separating the sides at the first break. The Hawks made a perfect start to the second quarter, adding a major within the opening minutes of the second term. Carlton responded quickly, finding a rhythm through strong ball movement from Lucy Burke (seven marks) and Emily Elkington (21 disposals), driving the ball inside 50. A beautiful passage of play resulted in AFLW Blue Lila Keck making her mark on the game with a major. This was closely followed by back-to-back goals from McCarthy and Tahlia Plunkett, who finished with three goals, giving the Blues a comfortable lead.
Carlton led by 15 points at half time and carried that confidence into the third term. McCarthy delivered a precise pass inside 50 to an unguarded Lila Keck early in the quarter, who put through her second major for the game, giving the Blues a three-goal advantage. AFLW Blue Gab Pound was influential throughout the contest and remained a dangerous target in the forward line. The ruckwork of Ellie Sbeghen proved pivotal and provided Carlton with first use at stoppages. Carlton extended its lead to 23 points at the final break, and again in the final term, maintaining control and comfortably securing an impressive 36-point victory. Coach Aasta O'Connor praised the team for their hard work and perseverance. “Overall, a really strong performance, certainly around the ball…our stoppage and clearance game was really strong,” she said. “It always comes back to us playing our way. I’m really proud of the group this year. With a couple of losses, there is still consistency in the game and a real maturity in the group growing week by week, which is really impressive” There were a number of players who caught O'Connor's eye who helped drive the result. “I'm really proud of how Nell Morris-Dalton has been going, stringing some games together and building form; to see her put a great month of footy together has been awesome,” O'Connor said. “I loved Taliha Plunkett’s game, her reaction and speed, especially coming off a few great weeks. “Emily Elkington, who, after an injury last season, is coming back really strong for us and putting some games together. “And Lucy Burke, with a great season playing as a key defender, also had an unreal intercept game.” Round 10 will see Carlton take on Geelong at Deakin University, Geelong, on Saturday, 18 July, from 12:05 pm.

Carlton responded to their narrow defeat last week with a thumping 36-point win over Box Hill Hawks at Box Hill City Oval on Saturday. The large margin of victory didn’t look to be on the cards after quarter time with the Hawks having three more scoring shots than their opposition; however, inaccuracy meant they had to settle for a three-point lead. The Blues would make them pay in the second quarter with a four-goal-to-one term, all of them coming in an eight-minute period, to lead by 17 points at half-time. The hosts were without their chances in the third term to reduce the deficit but again, only managed one goal from their first four scoring shots, opening the door for Carlton who kicked the last two goals of the term to make it a 29-point ball game, before a two-goal to one last term secured the triumph. AFLW star Lila Keck made her VFLW season debut and delivered with a terrific performance that included 30 disposals, nine tackles, four clearances and two goals. She was one of three multiple goalkickers for her side as well as Tahlia Plunkett who booted three majors and Nell Morris-Dalton who kicked two goals and also recorded a season-high 22 disposals. The Hawks were led by Annabelle Embelton who had 24 disposals, 11 rebound 50s and eight marks (four contested).

VFLW Blues fight back to defeat the Cats
Carlton defeated Geelong by 42 points on Saturday at Deakin University. - By Eve Joyce
Carlton VFLW overcame a slow start to record a significant 42-point victory over Geelong, 10.8 (68) to 4.2 (26), strengthening its place in the top six and adding a fifth win to its tally. The Blues found it challenging to maintain possession early on, with the Cats making a strong start. Geelong kicked the opening two goals, keeping Carlton at an arm’s length and making it difficult for the Blues to gain possession around the contest. The hosts found control and forced Carlton to rely on their defensive structure for the majority of the opening term. Towards the close of the first quarter, Carlton was able to generate multiple opportunities through consistent repeat inside 50s. This led to the Blues' first goal of the game off the boot of Lola Stone, keeping them within eight points of the home side at quarter time. Carlton came back swinging in the second quarter as they tried to close the margin. The team's hard work around the ball shifted momentum, and the Blues clawed back with a major from Hannah Bowey. This was closely followed by a clean possession chain starting with Tahlia Plunkett, who delivered the ball to Octavia Di Donato, who found Bowey for what was her second goal for the game, pushing Carlton into the lead for the first time in the match. Lucy Burke proved integral in limiting the Cats’ opportunities, keeping them goalless in the second term, employing her impressive aerial skills and intercept game to win the ball in contests. This kept the Blues ahead by 10 points going into half time. Coming back with confidence from its second-quarter surge, Carlton used its ground-level pressure to repeatedly force the ball past Geelong, creating opportunities. A long ball inside 50 from Stone landed in the hands of an undefended Zoe Larkins, who quickly turned and took a shot, converting another major and extending the Blues’ lead. Holding a comfortable lead as they entered the final quarter, the Blues remained organised behind the ball. Emily Elkington consistently hit her targets and set up opportunities inside 50. The final term was an even contest before Carlton finished strong with two goals in the dying minutes of the game to boost their lead as the siren sounded. Carlton will now return home to take on second on the ladder, Williamstown, next Saturday, July 25 from 2:00pm at IKON Park.

Carlton produced back-to-back victories to further distance themselves from the bottom seven in the VFLW competition after defeating Geelong by 42 points at Deakin University. It was the Cats who got the jump in the early stages of the game, kicking the first three majors of the match inside 10 minutes of play to lead by eight points at the first change, before the Blues stormed their way back into the contest with three and four-goal terms in the second and third quarters respectively putting the game beyond doubt when they were 31 points to the good at the final change. The away side had a bunch of strong contributors to the win, headlined again by Hannah Scott who amassed 30 disposals as well as eight clearances and nine tackles. Her teammates in Emily Elkington (27 disposals, nine tackles) and Octavia Di Donato (25 disposals, one goal) were also influential, with Sophia McCarthy leading the way up forward with three majors. The terrific form of Lucy Marescuk continued for Geelong despite the loss as she led her side in disposals (23), intercepts (nine) and inside 50’s (four).

VFLW Blues soar past the Seagulls
Carlton defeated Williamstown by 10 points on Saturday at IKON Park. - By Eve Joyce
Carlton VFLW secured its third consecutive win on Saturday, defeating Williamstown in a gritty 10-point victory at IKON Park, 6.6 (42) to 4.8 (32). The Blues made a strong start, with Danika Spamer capturing the opening major in the first three minutes of the game. This was closely followed by a goal from Alessia, giving the Blues the lead in the early moments of the first term. The back line remained disciplined, applying unwavering pressure behind the ball and limiting the Seagulls’ ability to move the ball freely down the corridor. AFLW Blue Kiara Bischa played a key role in the first quarter, intercepting and clearing the ball before finding Phoebe Hargreaves in space. The pair drove the ball downfield, helping Carlton take an 11-point lead into quarter time. Carlton continued to apply pressure at each contest, but Williamstown began to generate more opportunities. Lucy Burke proved pivotal as a key defender, as she smothered a crucial ball deep in defence and followed that up with a massive tackle. She ended the game with 29 disposals and 10 marks. The game went from end-to-end, with neither team able to capitalise on the consistent forward entries. Williamstown slowly worked its way back into the contest, and despite Carlton’s early advantage, the Seagulls led by seven points at half time.
Carlton came back from the main break ready to take back the lead. Nell Morris-Dalton provided a storybook start to the second half, using her height and aerial skills to take a flying mark inside 50 before converting to level the scores. The backline acted as a brick wall, allowing Carlton to move the ball at speed to find the hands of attackers such as Alessia Acquaro, who kicked her second goal for the afternoon. The Seagulls attempted to respond, but found the Blues' defensive structure too difficult to penetrate, and Carlton used this to its advantage as they linked up through the middle. The discipline and control shown by the Blues were reflected on the scoreboard, with three goals recorded in this quarter, establishing a valuable lead and sitting 11 points ahead of the visitors at three-quarter time. Both sides fought hard for territory in the final quarter. Summer Hall provided a clever moment with a short kick inside 50 after creating space for her teammates. Carlton’s persistence and smart ball movement were rewarded when Acquaro converted a set shot for her third goal of the game. Both sides continue to challenge until the final siren, but Carlton’s backline remained composed under pressure to record the 10-point win. Assistant Coach Michael King commended the team for playing to their strengths. “They played to their weapons, which was something we’d talked about before the game…they were challenged in the second quarter and responded, and now they get to enjoy it,” he said. “Our forwards had some great moments, but a lot of defensive work supported our offence today. Burke and Kiara Bischa were amazing today.” He finished with some words of wisdom for the team to carry into the final weeks of the season. “When the team believes that they can play with the strong teams and execute our system, they are rewarded; it’s just doing that more often than not.” Carlton is now set to take on Casey Demons in Round 12 next Saturday, August 1, at Casey Fields from 12:05 pm.
Rebel VFLW Review.
Carlton claimed their third straight win and jumped into the top four by round’s end after a huge victory against fellow finals contender Williamstown by 10 points at Ikon Park. Having not defeated the Seagulls since the 2023 elimination final, the Blues started Saturday’s contest well, keeping their opponents to just two scoring shots to lead by nine points at quarter time. The away side would produce their most impressive patch in the second term however, kicking two majors and keeping Carlton scoreless to take a seven-point advantage into the main break. But the Blues would respond quickly, with a huge three-goal third term putting them in the box seat at the final change before holding their nerve to ensure their lead didn’t dip into single figures by the full-time siren. Hannah Scott could not have done any more to lead her side to victory in a near flawless display that included a game-high 33 disposals, a game-high 17 tackles, and an equal game-high eight clearances as well as four inside 50s. She was supported well by Lucy Burke who starred in defence with 30 touches, 14 intercept possessions and 10 marks meanwhile Alessia Acquaro booted three majors. The Seagulls were led well by Emily Eaves (16 disposals, 10 tackles, eight clearances).

Blues secure hard-fought win over Casey
The Blues defeated the Demons by 28 points on Saturday at Casey Fields. - By Eve Joyce
Carlton VFLW overcame a slow start to win in an arm wrestle against Casey on Saturday, defeating the home team by 28 points at Casey Fields, 4.12 (36) to 1.2 (8). The Blues took a minute to find their rhythm, but their defensive pressure ensured the Demons could not capitalise on their territorial advantage. Ellie Sbeghen proved pivotal not only in the ruck but also deep, finishing with 48 hit outs. Octavia Di Donato, in her 50th VFLW game, recorded 30 disposals. Despite opportunities for majors at both ends, Carlton was only able to record two behinds but kept the hosts scoreless. The second quarter started with renewed energy. Defender Lucy Burke held her ground, intercepting passes repeatedly to regain possession for Carlton’s and feed the ball to her teammates. The Blues remained composed, holding firm to their system and using their confidence to generate several promising passages straight down the corridor. However, converting was a challenge. Carlton eventually made a break when Stephanie Tredwell marks and converted, scoring the first goal for Carlton in this match and shifting momentum in the Blues' favour. Harriet Bingley then added another goal to their tally, extending their advantage as they entered half time with a nine-point lead. Carlton produced strong, determined plays as they generated forward entries as their midfield delivered the ball into attack. However, several chances went unanswered as they attempted to build a wider margin. They continued their effort, which paid off when Di Donato scored a goal after earning a free kick following a strong contest inside 50. There was a noticeable intensity around the ball as the quarter progressed. The Blues continued to have the numbers forward, keeping the ball firmly in their attacking 50 and limiting Casey’s ability to get on the attack.
The Demons attempted to respond using their tall target, but Carlton’s midfield moved the ball quickly, hitting their targets inside 50. Bingley added a second goal of the game, while the opposition struggled to contain the rapid ball movement as the Blues found space on the wings. Carlton led by 25 points at three-quarter time. The Blues maintained the intensity leading into the final term, applying pressure around the contest. It was back-and-forth, with both sides fighting tirelessly, but scoring opportunities were limited. It was a 28-point victory for Carlton as the final siren rang, marking their fourth win in a row and setting them up for Round 13. Assistant Coach Michael King praised the team for their persistence. “We started slowly, and they hunted after us at the start, but then we were able to address that and play the way we like to play. We got on top of it all with the numbers around the ball and the contest, and then we were able to control the game,” he said. “Getting the win today teaches the team that others are hunting us and watching the way we play, and we need to be ready for that and just keep doing what we’re doing and do it well.” Carlton heads south to take on the Tasmania Devils in Round 13 next Saturday, August 8, at North Hobart Oval from 2:35 pm. Looking ahead to the clash, King said the trip will provide valuable time for the group to strengthen bonds on and off the field. “It’ll be a great experience travelling over there, spending time together as a team, and facing Tasmania at their home ground, and really set us up for the rest of the season,” he said.

Carlton meanwhile also won a fourth straight game to maintain their place inside the top four for now, defeating Casey by 28 points at Casey Fields. After a goalless opening quarter between the two sides, both teams traded majors with the Blues taking a nine-point into the main break. The visitors would then make their move in the third term, kicking two further majors from five scoring shots whilst keeping the Demons scoreless to open up a 25-point three quarter time advantage which they extended slightly by full time. Three Blues had 30 disposals or greater including the seemingly regular Hannah Scott (32 disposals) and Octavia Di Donato (30 disposals) as well as Zoe Larkins (32 disposals), meanwhile Harriet Bingley was the side’s only multiple goalkicker with two goals in her fourth game of the season. Zoe Mitchell led the way for Casey finishing with 27 disposals, 16 contested possessions, five clearances and five inside 50s.

Blues win inaugural clash with Tassie
Carlton VFLW defeated Tasmania by 15 points on Saturday at North Hobart Oval. - By Eve Joyce.
Carlton VFLW overcame Tasmania by 15 points on Saturday at North Hobart Oval in the two sides' inaugural clash, winning 9.7 (61) to 7.4 (46). The Blues' experience in the air, as well as their defensive structures, were crucial from the outset, ensuring they could create quickly transition the ball into attack. However, Tasmania managed to control much of the early territory, setting itself up as dangerous right from the start. Lucy Burke played a vital role in the backline, steadying the Blues' defence after the hosts scored the opening goal of the afternoon. Carlton responded shortly through Danika Spamer, whose tireless work around the contest was rewarded with the team’s first major. Despite Tasmania’s early control, the Blues stayed competitive and ended the first quarter trailing by just one point. Heading into the second term, the contest remained even until Harriet Bingley pushed past Tassie’s defence, giving Carlton the lead with a goal in her home state. The Devils looked to respond quickly but the Blues' defence had tightened, denying several opportunities. Carlton began to pick up the pace and used repeat stoppages inside its forward 50 to gain control, sending the ball forward to Zoe Larkins, who was influential in driving the ball forward and created opportunities in attack, which she capitalised on, extending the margin. Larkins finished the game with 20 disposals. The Blues' defensive structures restricted Tasmania’s movement and allowed the travelling side to create an 18-point lead as the half-time siren sounded.
The third quarter saw both teams battling for territory through the corridor, with neither team able to convert any of their forward entries and fought for possession. Tasmania eventually broke through to level the scores. The momentum change tested the Blues, who were suddenly under pressure for the first time in the game. However, the lost control didn’t last for long as Carlton responded with Bingley snapping through her second goal of the afternoon to restore the lead. Within minutes, Phoebe Hargreaves took a solid mark on the 50 before delivering the ball inside to Ellie Sbeghen, who converted to extend the margin further. Carlton regained its breathing room while Tasmania refused to back down, responding late in the quarter to reduce the margin once again, leaving Carlton ahead by one goal. The Blues added a goal from Carlton AFLW-listed player Aisling Reidy to reclaim the momentum. Tackling pressure was high, as the Blues maintained their composure. A late 50-meter penalty ended in a Larkins’ crucial major, pulling the Blues ahead comfortably as they secured a 15-point victory at North Hobart Oval. Round 14 will see Carlton take on the Western Bulldogs on Saturday at Whitten Oval from 2.00pm.
Rebel VFLW Review.
Carlton enjoyed a fifth consecutive victory to be one of the in-form teams of the competition heading into finals following a 15-point defeat of Tasmania at North Hobart Oval. After an even opening quarter that saw the Devils take a one-point lead into quarter time, the Blues surged in the second term, kicking three majors in just eight minutes to take an 18-point advantage into the main break. The Devils would be afforded that same opportunity despite a slow start to the second half, as they fired home three goals in three minutes, ending their scintillating run by tying proceedings at the 13-minute mark. That momentum would be short lived as the away side responded with consecutive goals but Tassie would still find themselves only six points down by three quarter time. The margin would sit at just one-point by the sixth minute of the last term before Carlton would ensure victory with the final two majors of the game. It was the usual suspects that helped the Blues get over the line, as Hannah Scott (28 disposals, 12 clearances) and Octavia Di Donato (24 disposals, six inside 50s) proved to be the most influential players on the ground. Zoe Larkins was also terrific for Carlton, kicking two goals and producing 20 disposals, meanwhile Grace White’s terrific season continued with 17 disposals, seven inside 50s and a goal.

Carlton VFLW secures a hard-fought win over the Western Bulldogs.
The Blues defeated the Bulldogs by 13 points on Sunday at Mission Whitten Oval to make it six wins in a row. - By Eve Joyce
Carlton VFLW overcame a slow start to defeat the Western Bulldogs by points on Sunday at Mission Whitten Oval, winning 7.5 (47) to 5.4 (34). The 13-point victory marked six wins in a row and locked in a finals spot for the side. The Blues worked hard around the contest, keeping their pressure strong despite the Bulldogs claiming the opening major. Carlton worked the ball through the corridor using the driving force of the midfield and the experience of a number of AFLW-listed players to create forward entries in the early minutes. The hosts held control for much of the first quarter, but the Blues kept their composure, forcing turnovers to create chances. This persistence was rewarded when Danika Spamer found a loose ball deep in attack and converted Carlton's first major for the afternoon. The Blues sought to use momentum off that first goal to push ahead, but the Bulldogs maintained a 13-point lead into quarter time. Carlton lifted its energy to close the margin, tightening up the backline and gaining better control of the stoppages. Hannah Scott was influential around the contest, finishing with 26 disposals. She sent the ball to Harriet Bingley, who finessed a sneaky kick while in a tackle, using her awareness in congestion to deliver it to Hannah Bowey for another Blues goal. The contest was even as both sides tried to find opportunities; Carlton remained patient, making the most of every possession to get the ball inside 50, when Brooke Boileau, an AFLW-listed player, kicked truly, levelling the scores. The Blues locked the Bulldogs down at every chance, keeping them scoreless in the second term and carrying the momentum into the half-time break.
The Blues backline worked together like a well-oiled machine, limiting the hosts’ opportunities to get ahead once again. Alessia Acquaro put Carlton ahead for the first time with a major. The Bulldogs responded quickly, taking the lead briefly. Carlton kept numbers around the ball and used the pressure to force the opposition into difficult decisions. This allowed the Blues to transition quickly from defence to attack straight down the corridor into the hands of Octavia Di Donato for another major, regaining Carlton’s advantage. Carlton held a narrow lead as three-quarter time drew near. The Blues maintained their energy, pushing past fatigue to carry possession and control into the final term. The team quickly strengthened their position on the scoreboard; AFLW-listed player Aisling Reidy added an integral goal, extending the Blues’ lead and giving them the confidence needed for the final term. Carlton’s defensive structure kept the Bulldogs at bay, denying them easy opportunities. The Blues found their rhythm, holding territory for extended periods of the quarter and once again using numbers around the contest to maintain possession and secure the victory. Round 15 sees Carlton take on Geelong at IKON Park this Saturday, August 22 from 12.05 pm, the last home match before finals.
Rebel VFLW Review.
It’s now six wins on the trot for Carlton who stay within touching distance of the top two after a 13-point win over the Western Bulldogs at Mission Whitten Oval on Sunday. The Bulldogs got the jump in the first term, kicking the first three majors of the game to take a 13-point advantage into the first change. The Blues picked up the pace in the second term and did so by keeping their opponents scoreless to level the scores by half-time. A further two majors would help Carlton lead narrowly before they would repeat the dose in the final term to distance themselves well and truly from the Western Bulldogs and keep their winning run intact. Hannah Scott’s scintillating form continued into another week as the Blues star amassed 27 disposals, eight intercept possessions and six clearances, with usual running mate Octavia Di Donato not far behind with a performance that included 25 disposals, six inside 50s and a goal. Ellie Bishop was excellent for the Dogs with 27 disposals and a game-high seven clearances, along with Ellie Gavalas, who had 26 touches, five inside 50s and five tackles.

Blues edged by Cats
Carlton VFLW went down to Geelong by three points. - By Eve Joyce
Carlton VFLW fell short to Geelong on Saturday at IKON Park, suffering a three-point loss, 3.6 (24) to 3.9 (27). The Blues set the tone early, taking control of the opening term through applying pressure to each contest and generating repeat entries inside 50 as they challenged the Cats’ defence. Carlton’s defence was tested when Geelong forced a turnover, sending the ball deep, but Lucy Burke worked quickly, gathering the loose ball and delivering it right back to the Blues forward line, preventing the visitors from an easy score. The Blues midfield worked tirelessly, as Hannah Scott and Lily Baxter drove the ball out of congestion and down the corridor to Danika Spamer, who converted the opening goal of the game. Using this to their advantage, Carlton continued to pursue territory, putting pressure on Geelong’s defence. The Cats had limited opportunities in the opening term as Carlton commanded the midfield contest, leading by one goal at quarter time. As the second term got underway, the Blues looked to continue their strong start. However, the Cats locked the ball inside their 50 and limiting Carlton’s opportunities as the visitors wrestled back the momentum. AFLW-listed player Brooke Boileau was key in delivering the ball to the Blues’ attacking half, ending the game with 22 disposals. Geelong’s defensive pressure forced turnovers, allowing the visitors to transition quickly and gain on Carlton's small lead. Burke remained a disruptive presence, spoiling several attacks and preventing the Cats from extending their advantage further. She finished with 23 disposals. The Blues couldn't crack the Cats' defence before half time, with Geelong leading by two points at the main break.
Carlton came back fighting after half time, with both teams battling for control through the middle of the ground. Geelong’s urgency was felt as they looked to capitalise on any opportunity in a push towards finals, but Carlton responded quickly to the challenge, meeting the visitors point for point. The Blues used numbers around the ball and rapid passages of play in an attempt to close the margin, and they were rewarded for this hard work through AFLW-listed player Aisling Reidy, whose major reduced the margin to a single point. Carlton regained control, locking the ball in its attacking half for much of the latter half of the third quarter. It was an even match, with both teams level on the scoreboard. Geelong managed to edge back in front in the dying minutes of the third term, however, Carlton remained firmly within reach, with just one point separating them. The final quarter was tense as both sides searched for a goal to pull ahead. A series of minor scores saw Carlton briefly move ahead for the first time since the opening quarter. Neither side could maintain control for long as the momentum continued to shift. Carlton continued to battle through the midfield, but Geelong had numbers around the contest, making it difficult to gain any space. The Cats eventually broke through the back line, restoring their advantage and forcing Carlton back on the chase. Geelong maintained the lead for the remainder of the quarter, with Hannah Bowey providing a bright spark in the dying minutes of the game, scoring a major and reducing the margin. The Blues remained within reach throughout the final quarter, but despite several late opportunities, they were unable to regain the lead as Geelong secured the win. This match closes out the home and away season, now the VFLW Blues turn their attention to finals.
Smithy's VFLW Review
Carlton’s winning run came to an end on Saturday, all while giving Geelong a slim hope of a top six finish, as the Cats prevailed by three points at Ikon Park. The Blues, who were looking for their seventh straight victory, kicked the sole major of the opening term to lead by six points at quarter time before they were kept scoreless by the Cats who kicked one goal from three scoring shots to go into the half time break ahead by two points. Both sides were hard to split in the third quarter with scores level at one point before the away side settled for a narrow one-point lead approaching the last quarter. Both sides produced two behinds a piece before Nikita Harris converted her set shot opportunity from 35 metres out in what proved to be the winning goal for Geelong despite a late Blues major with 30 seconds remaining. Jasmin Stewart was one of her side’s three goalkickers for the match and also led the Cats in disposals with 22, meanwhile Axel Oswald had 15 intercept possessions. Lucy Burke was excellent for Carlton in defence, amassing 23 disposals, 14 rebound 50s and eight intercept possessions, whilst Ellie Sbeghan had 40 hit outs.
Geelong pulled off an upset win over Carlton, keeping its admittedly slim chances of a finals berth alive. Recruit Jasmin Stewart was outstanding for the Cats once again, with 23 disposals, eight tackles and a goal, and ruck Caitie Tipping recorded 17 hitouts and seven disposals. Sienna Tallariti (12 disposals, five marks), Annie Lee (20 disposals, nine tackles, seven intercepts), and Kate Surman (20 disposals, five clearances) also played for Geelong. Key forward Tara Bohanna had an inaccurate day out for Carlton, finishing with three behinds from her 13 disposals, as draftees Lily Baxter (16 disposals) and Tayla McMillan (seven disposals, seven tackles) continue to build in the navy guernsey. Aisling Reidy kicked a goal, Kiara Bischa had six intercept possessions, Lou-Lou Field laid six tackles, while Brooke Boileau was dominant through the middle of the ground with 22 disposals and eight clearances.

Match Review
VFLW Blues’ season ends in a hard-fought elimination final.
Carlton went down by 10 to Port Melbourne in an elimination final on Saturday at IKON Park. - By Eve Joyce.
Carlton VFLW was edged out by Port Melbourne in Saturday's elimination final at IKON Park, going down by 10 points, 5.5 (35) to 6.9 (45). The Blues started strong in front of the roaring home crowd. Within the first two minutes, Grace Matser made an incredible return, kicking the opening goal of the game and giving the Blues the perfect start. The Borough responded quickly by increasing numbers around the contest, but the Blues' defensive structures held firm. Lucy Burke was a commanding presence across the backline, taking multiple intercepts and driving the ball forward. She finished the game with 17 disposals. Hannah Scott (22 diposals) was another key player, constantly finding herself in the contest and clearing the ball. Port Melbourne levelled the scores soon after, but Carlton continued to respond. Alessia Acquaro's booted crucial major in the latter half of the quarter, before Danika Spamer added another to the tally in the final seconds, taking momentum as they headed into the first break with Carlton leading by 10 points. The second term brought heavy rain, creating difficult conditions. Despite this, Carlton continued to persevere and create opportunities in the forward line. Octavia Di Donato's pressure and tackling were immense, denying the Borough any opportunities to capitalise. Both teams controlled various passages of play, however, Port Melbourne locked the ball in their forward half, limiting Carlton’s chances inside 50. Hannah Bowey seized her moment and created an opportunity inside 50, delivering the ball to Acquaro, who added a second goal for the afternoon. Port Melbourne were able to add another major to their tally, reducing Carlton's margin to nine points as half time arrived.
Port Melbourne came out of the main break firing, with two goals in quick succession, and as a result, the lead for the first time in the match as momentum shifted. Gabriella Pound and Emma Horne worked tirelessly to help the Blues regain possession, before Matilda Fitzgerald came through with an important intercept in the push to regain control of the game. Spamer drove the ball deep into the 50, where Matser waited patiently to receive it in an exquisite aerial grab. Matser converted her second goal of the game, reducing the margin to three points as Carlton stayed in the game. Port Melbourne maintained its lead by nine points at three-quarter time. With their season on the line, the Blues came out fighting in the final term. Both teams played a very even game, with something of a stalemate in the early minutes of the last quarter. Lily Baxter laid a strong tackle on the wing, stopping the momentum of Port Melbourne as the Blues took possession back. But despite controlling territory in the early stages, Carlton struggled to convert its opportunities. The Borough used this to their advantage and held their lead. Despite Carlton’s best efforts, it couldn't bridge the gap. The final result, a 10-point loss, brings Carlton’s VFLW 2026 season to a close. Coach Aasta O'Connor praised the team for their significant growth across the season. "They learnt a lot about themselves as players, and as a team. They just love the game, especially here at Carlton where they are supported by some really great coaching staff," she said. "The entire team grew and matured as players, and it was really cool to see that, seeing them smile and enjoy each other’s company while playing the game they all love."
Rebel VFLW Review. A strong third quarter drove Port Melbourne to an elimination final win at IKON Park after defeating Carlton by 10 points on Saturday. After an even opening 10 minutes to the game which saw both sides open their accounts with goals, the Blues would get the jump to lead at the first break, kicking two goals in the last three minutes of the match to go ahead 10 points. They would keep the Borough at arm’s length in the second term and twice hit game-high leads of 15 points in the quarter before a late Kaitlyn O’Keefe goal made the deficit nine points for the away side. It would prove to be a goal that sparked a terrific start to the second half for Port Melbourne as they booted four goals. Two of those came within minutes of each other from Paris Gebel-Lamb to set the tone in third term and with only one goal conceded the Borough would hold a nine-point lead by three quarter time. No side would kick a goal in the final quarter which solidified Port Melbourne’s upset victory and made it two wins from two against the Blues in 2026. The likes of Emear Scally (22 disposals, seven clearances) and Courtney Jones (18 disposals, 11 tackles) led the charge for Port Melbourne whilst Gebel-Lamb’s two third quarter goals was the third time she’s booted two majors in a match this season. Hannah Scott’s form didn’t fall away despite Carlton’s exit from season 2026; she led her side in disposals (24) whilst also having 10 tackles, meanwhile Ellie Sbeghen was outstanding in the ruck with 54 hit outs, 15 disposals and seven inside 50s, and Mia Caffry ended her impressive campaign on a high with 19 touches, six clearances and five tackles.
